For me, the best elements of this role were the environment and awesome natural beauty of the region, the warmth and hospitality of the family and local people, and the highly physical nature of the work required. It wasn't perfect, but I respect the willingness of Toto to confront, discuss & resolve to his best ability any issues, regardless of complexity. Any volunteers should be prepared for early starts, long & hot hours, and be flexible and open-minded. You are rewarded with Mama G's DELICIOUS (!!!) food, Papa Rick's brilliant stories, and enough free time to explore Iloilo 👍🏽 enjoy it!

The experience at the farm was all around amazing. The work on the bamboo farm was very physical but rewarding and fun !! Toto was understanding and caring with everyone's need and wants. This made it feel like a home. Moma Gloria's cooking was very tasty and all her food is fresh !! She cooks from her heart and love for sharing her food. The accommodation was really good the beds were very comfortable and all the rooms had their own bathroom. I would recommend this to anyone that is looking to learn about bamboo and have a lovely family and home looking after you :)

The experience at the project farm is a really good way to learn about sustainability and farming, I learned a lot about bamboo and other tropical plants, the work is really chill and always with safety equipment. The ospitally I received is unmatched, from Toto to Mama Gloria and Papa Rick I always felt like part of the family, a big compliment to Mama Gloria for the commitment to cook always really good food for us ; the accomodation is nice with perfect bed, perfect bathroom and also hot water. The experience at the farm taught me a lot and I made good friends, I would definitely do it again

I had a good time during my short stay at the project, and gained a lot of new experiences. Escalantera is a small village located in a stunning environment. Toto and his family welcomed me into their home, they were friendly and accommodating. If you would like to experience what the countryside of the Philippines is like, learn about bamboo cultivation and processing, or if you enjoy spending your afternoon at the beach (after work or during the weekend) I would highly recommend volunteering at the project.
