It’s important to note that phone service is available in Cape Tribulation near Turtle Rock Cafe but is unavailable in most other places. So, be prepared with offline maps and a couple of good books, because most of the accommodations don’t have wi-fi either!

1. Alkira Resort House and Rainforest Retreat

Alkira is an architectural masterpiece in the heart of the Daintree. The award-winning, off-grid, carbon-neutral property is powered by renewable energy and is the work of architect Charles Wright. The property is made up of six cantilevered wings that emerge from the lake and appear to almost float on its surface. Alkira is also Category 5 cyclone-proof and is technically classed as a cyclone shelter!

2. mist

mist is the newest luxury boutique accommodation in Cape Tribulation, with three freestanding and spacious pavilions available to stay in. Each pavilion has 50 square metres of indoor and covered outdoor living space for you to immerse yourself in the rainforest.

mist sits at the base of Mount Sorrow and is named after the mist that envelops the top of the mountain. Completely off-grid, mist uses solar power to run the property, and is also a pet-friendly accommodation, so you can bring your furry friend with you too.

3. Ferntree Rainforest Lodge

Ferntree Rainforest Lodge is a family-owned environmentally friendly resort where guests can witness from their rooms the magical display of nature and wildlife unique to the Daintree. Ferntree has five room types, ranging from a luxury garden loft to a more affordable standard room option.

Ferntree’s in-house Cassowary Restaurant has a Balinese-style décor and serves some truly Australian dishes like kangaroo fillet medallions and panko-crusted crocodile! Wednesday and Thursday are “special nights” at the restaurant, with pasta and pizza nights respectively, and the main menu isn’t available on those nights. Also, be sure to reserve a table, as service can’t be guaranteed otherwise due to the remoteness of the lodge.

4. Cape Tribulation Beach House

With direct access to Cape Tribulation Beach, a restaurant and bar on site, and a swimming pool (because you don’t want to swim in the ocean), Cape Trib Beach House welcomes people from all walks of life. With no wi-fi or service, a stay here is super peaceful and allows you to properly disconnect.

Extensive renovations were completed in 2021, including the design and construction of the new Endeavour Family Units that can sleep up to six people. There are six different styles of rooms to suit every type of traveller.

5. PK’s Jungle Village

PK’s Jungle Village is a budget accommodation option in the hustle and bustle of Cape Trib. If you’re into adventure, you’re a backpacker, or you’re just mindful of saving your cash, this is the accommodation for you. PK’s offers private cabins and dormitory style accommodation, all with air-conditioning, as well as camping facilities and a caravan park all just a short walk to the beach in Cape Tribulation.

The large pool is the place to be in the afternoon, and then in the evening, it all happens at PK’s famous Jungle Bar. With Happy Hour from 6pm – 7pm and 8.30pm – 9.30pm, relaxing at the Jungle Bar is the ultimate way to end your busy day in the Daintree.

6. Safari Lodge

Safari Lodge offers both cabins and campsites, including powered campsites suitable for caravans and motorhomes. Safari Lodge also has a swimming pool and the Turtle Rock Cafe on the premises. Sleep in the jungle and enjoy the sounds of the rainforest at night, and if you can rise early to experience the sunrise over beautiful Myall Beach, you won’t regret it.
